Random Updates 6.27.09

I feel like a lot has been going on lately, though when I try to recall what those things are, it becomes a blur.

Rei in NYC

- Rei was in town for two days with Peace Boat, and we were able to grab dinner Friday night and catch up. Her last stop was Iceland. Her next stop is Venezuela. I really don’t know how she does it. Because of our geographical differences I probably see her once a year at most but it’s always a great time when I do.

Central Park

- Rie (not to be confused with Rei) was also in town- a few weeks ago. We had brunch in the UWS. I hadn’t seen her in 5 or more years. The last time was probably lunch with Kazue and Katie in Tokyo! Her friend Kiyoe-chan came to NYC with her – what’s crazy is, I had met her over 10 years ago when she had visited Boston and I drove those girls around town to sightsee/shop. Amazing how time flies.

- speaking of Katie, she’s getting married (they finally set a date!) I know! Exciting right? What’s more exciting is she’s asked me to be her MOH :D I love this girl, she’s SO awesome! I’m so happy for her and her fiancee~

Win!
- For the WIN… Happy Birthday Annie! We need to go back to Alice’s for more ham and cheese scones!

- I recently received a card addressed to my mom from her hospital in Atlanta (her mail is forwarded to my home) – it was an invitation to their Cancer Survivor’s Day celebration. It reminded me that my mom is a two-time cancer survivor. She’s a tough cookie. I think cancer affects most of us these days in some way or another – it’s a rough battle but having a supportive family/network is so important to get you through it. Life is short and you live only once – my dad always tells me this – just make sure you live your life to the fullest without any regrets, and do what makes you happy. Tomorrow is never promised…

- I’m still in disbelief about Michael Jackson’s passing. It seems so surreal, but then again a lot about his life was surreal… I leave you today with this tribute performance by those awesome Filipino prisoners.

iPhrenzy again?

…so Friday’s the big day. The new iPhone 3G S is going to be released but don’t expect me to line up 6 hours to get my hands on the new one again. Once was enough! haha. My 1-year-old 3G works just fine. I just need to get home and download the new software update already. Anyone get it yet? How is it???

Interestingly enough, I just read this article about how “iPhone users are richer, younger, and perhaps even more productive at work” than users of other smartphones.

I’m so productive, I have nothing left to do at work right now… :D

Love and Logic

Can I just tell you, I’ve got a lot of love for this girl. I’m so proud of her! She gave us an amazing performance this weekend with her bandmates of Love and Logic. She’s classically trained, and currently in a ROCK BAND! How cool is that? I’m such a groupie ;)
Now go and support their music by following them on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and download their EP!

So I’m sure you noticed, but I edited my previous posts to have password protection again. It’s mainly because I’m getting random comment approval requests from Russian IPs and I’d rather not be bothered with those. It’s the same password as before. As long as you’re not spamming me, I’ll give it to you so you can read my random ramblings. Just ask. ;)

I’ll keep this post open for now, until I get those annoying requests again. It seems to happen every once in awhile.

It’s been a pretty busy few weeks, with a lot going on around me. I’m looking forward to some ‘me’ time, but most of all I’m looking forward to a particular trip that will be coming up soon. There are a few things on the agenda for my trip. Until then, I may still seem a bit spaced out, so just bear with me….

On the home front, it’s been 10 months since I’ve become a homeowner. My first successful home improvement project was completed last week – a new kitchen faucet was installed. Haha. Yeah, not overly exciting for most people, but you had to see the old faucet. It was probably the original faucet from say 30 years ago? :P Now I can’t stop finding excuses to run the water. Do I need to wash any dishes? Do I need to boil any water? Does the Brita need to be refilled? etc… I love my new Moen faucet!

I saw a Bollywood movie today called Taare Zameen Par. It is a lovely film about a young boy who does poorly in school and subject to much punishment/humiliation for it, gets sent to boarding school and away from his family. And amidst all of his suffering, he meets a teacher who identifies him as being dyslexic and this teacher actually tries to make a difference in the boy’s life. It’s an inspiring story and really touches your heart.
